Sherlock Holmes: The Last Vampyre is a 1993 British television film that continues the adventures of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detective. The film stars Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes, Edward Hardwicke as Dr. John Watson and Roy Marsden as Charles Augustus Milverton. The movie is an adaptation of the story "The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire" and was directed by Tim Sullivan.

The film opens with Holmes receiving a letter from a woman named Gabrielle Valladon seeking his help. She claims that her husband is being falsely accused of killing their baby and that a vampire is responsible for the whole thing. Initially, Holmes dismisses the case as he is allergic to "fairy tales". However, when further events take place and the inhabitants of the small village of Wiltshire are being terrorized at night by what they claim is a vampire, Holmes becomes intrigued and decides to take on the case.

Upon arrival at the village, Holmes and Watson meet with Gabrielle and her husband, and are introduced to the other inhabitants. While interviewing the locals, Holmes and Watson discover many suspicions and secrets within the town. The village is being plagued by a series of strange incidents, such as attack on livestock, strange animal behavior, and mysterious deaths, all of which they believe are linked to the legend of the vampire.

As in typical Holmes fashion, the duo starts to investigate and put the puzzle together. They deduce that there is a group of people who are secretly hiding the fact that the vampire legend is a ruse to cover up their own nefarious deeds. They believe that if the villagers are convinced there is a vampire, then they will not look elsewhere for the real culprit. As the investigation continues, the truth slowly emerges and the darker side of the village is revealed.

The Last Vampyre is a well-paced film with excellent character development, including some excellent performances from Brett and Hardwicke who, as always, are excellent as Holmes and Watson. The supporting cast is also very strong, with Roy Marsden giving a particularly effective performance as the mysterious Milverton.

The film also offers excellent sets and heightened suspense. The cinematography is effective in creating a sense of foreboding and unease, especially at night when the creature's attacks become fiercer. The tone of the movie is dark and gloomy which keeps the audience engaged and curious.

Overall, Sherlock Holmes: The Last Vampyre is a great mystery that brings Holmes's deductive powers up against the supernatural. It is a gripping tale of terror and suspense with plenty of unexpected twists and turns. The movie has a definite gothic feel to it, which only adds to its appeal. Fans of the books will love the adaptation and those new to the world of Sherlock Holmes will find the movie an intriguing introduction to one of literature's most iconic detectives.
