Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon is a 1942 mystery movie directed by Roy William Neill and starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes, Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson, and Lionel Atwill as Professor James Moriarty. It is the fourth in a series of fourteen films that feature Rathbone and Bruce as Holmes and Watson. The movie is loosely based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's short story "The Adventure of the Dancing Men".

The movie opens in Switzerland where Professor Moriarty has stolen a new bomb sight, a highly advanced device that could change the course of World War II. Moriarty plans to sell the bomb sight to the Nazis, but Holmes and Watson are on his trail. The British Secret Service enlists Holmes to help them recover the bomb sight before it can be sold to the enemy.

Holmes and Watson travel to Switzerland where they meet up with a beautiful spy named Charlotte Eberli, played by Kaaren Verne. Charlotte has been working for the British Secret Service and has infiltrated Moriarty's organization. She helps Holmes and Watson get access to Moriarty's headquarters, a castle in Switzerland.

Once inside the castle, Holmes and Watson encounter a series of obstacles and traps set by Moriarty. They eventually find the bomb sight hidden inside a statue and attempt to make their escape. However, Moriarty and his henchmen are in hot pursuit, and a thrilling chase ensues through the streets of Switzerland.

The movie is filled with suspense, action, and intrigue, as Holmes and Watson try to outwit Moriarty and prevent the bomb sight from falling into the hands of the Nazis. Along the way, they encounter a number of interesting characters, including a Swiss mountain guide and a group of Moriarty's henchmen.

Basil Rathbone delivers a standout performance as Sherlock Holmes, capturing the character's intelligence, wit, and determination to solve the case. Nigel Bruce is also excellent as the lovable and bumbling Dr. Watson, providing comic relief and a touch of humanity to the proceedings.

Lionel Atwill is perfect as the diabolical Professor Moriarty, playing the role with just the right amount of sinister charm. His interactions with Rathbone's Holmes are tense and engaging, with both actors playing off each other to create a sense of cat and mouse between the two characters.

The movie also features some impressive set pieces and action sequences for its time, including the aforementioned chase through the streets of Switzerland and a thrilling climactic battle on a moving train. The movie's score, composed by Hans J. Salter, adds to the tension and drama of the story, perfectly complementing the action on screen.

Overall, Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon is a thrilling and entertaining mystery movie, showcasing the talents of Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce, and Lionel Atwill. It's a must-see for fans of the genre, as well as anyone who appreciates classic Hollywood cinema.

Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon is a 1943 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 20 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.5.
