Set in the early 20th century, Shout at the Devil is an action-adventure film directed by Peter R. Hunt and starring two legendary actors, Lee Marvin and Roger Moore. The film tells the story of two unlikely allies, Flynn O'Flynn (Lee Marvin), an irreverent and cunning American poacher, and Sebastian Oldsmith (Roger Moore), a prim and proper English aristocrat, who team up to hunt an omnipotent German warship that threatens to destroy their idyllic African home.

The film starts with the arrival of the German battleship, Konigin Luise, on the African coast where the pompous Captain Fleischer (Reinhard Kolldehoff) has come to claim land owned by Oldsmith's family. The Germans believe that African soil is essential to the success of the war effort, and they are willing to do anything to claim it. Oldsmith initially tries to reason with the Germans, but when things go awry, he joins forces with O'Flynn to devise a plan to destroy the warship.

Their first attempt goes awry when their homemade explosive fails to detonate, but it does catch the attention of Otto Kruger (Gernot Endemann), a German spy, who is sent to infiltrate the group and discover their plans. However, O'Flynn is aware of Kruger's presence and uses his wit to trick him into giving away a valuable piece of information.

As the tension between the two sides escalates, Oldsmith's daughter, Rosa (Barbara Parkins), and Flynn's son, Flynn Jr. (Ian Holm), become embroiled in a passionate and tumultuous romance, much to the disapproval of their respective parents. Even as they battle the Germans, the two men must also come to terms with their prejudices and learn to respect each other's differences as they bond over their shared love and concern for the young couple.

As the plot thickens, the hunters become the hunted, and the stakes are raised when the Germans capture both Flynn and Rosa. The film then reaches its epic climax in a thrilling sea battle between the Konigin Luise and O'Flynn's ramshackle steamboat, where the two sides engage in a fierce battle to determine the victor.

Shout at the Devil offers a compelling mix of action, comedy, and drama, with outstanding visuals that bring to life the African landscape and its inhabitants. The standout performances from Marvin and Moore elevate the film, and their onscreen chemistry creates a delightful dynamic that carries the plot forward.

Marvin, in particular, is a powerhouse of talent, embodying the rugged and rebellious character of Flynn O'Flynn with effortless charm and charisma. Moore, meanwhile, is the perfect foil to Marvin's rough-around-the-edges character, imbuing Sebastian Oldsmith with a dry humor and a sense of propriety that adds a delightful contrast to the film's more action-packed moments.

Throughout the film, the tense relationship between the British and German characters reflects the colonial politicking of the time, giving the story a historical context that adds nuance to the central conflict. The film also explores themes of family, loyalty, and love in unexpected ways, offering a poignant and heartwarming message amidst the chaos of war.

Overall, Shout at the Devil is a gripping and entertaining film that deserves to be seen by fans of action movies and historical dramas alike. Its timeless qualities have made it a cult classic, and its memorable performances and daring action sequences continue to captivate audiences to this day.
