Socket is a 2007 science fiction drama film directed and written by Sean Abley. The main characters are Bill (Derek Long) and Jane (Alexandra Billings), who are initially strangers to each other but are later bonded by a strange phenomenon. The story begins with Bill, an electrical engineer who loves to experiment with electricity. He frequently sneaks into power stations and experiments with high voltage circuits. One day, during one of his experiments, he gets electrocuted and falls into a coma. However, Bill miraculously recovers and discovers that he has been endowed with a strange power. He can harness electricity and use it to heal himself and others. The eerie thing about his power is that it can only be activated when it is connected to a power source.

Bill is understandably amazed and confused by his newfound ability and turns to his friend and coworker, Abe (Matthew Montgomery), for help with his perplexing situation. Abe, being an open-minded person, decides to assist Bill with his investigation. They conduct numerous experiments to test his power's limits and find out how it can be triggered.

While in the process, Bill’s path crosses with a transgender electrician, Jane, who seems to have a similar experience. She was electrocuted on the job and was left with the power to heal others, too. As Bill and Jane get to know each other, they discover that their powers are connected to an alien entity. An unknown light has entered their bodies, and it's giving them this electric power.

Through Abe’s research, they find out that their powers have indeed come from an extraterrestrial source - an alien light that seeks to heal the universe. The light is channeling its energy through the electric devices and wires, and into people who have been inexplicably electrocuted.

As Bill and Jane navigate the reality of their newfound electric abilities, they find themselves caught between the government and a religious group called the Elect who believe that their power is a divine sign from God. The government sees Bill and Jane's power as an opportunity for weaponization, while the Elect, who believe that they are God's elect, deems Bill and Jane as blasphemies.

Thus, the two friends are thrust into a conflict, where they must fight for their right to live and use their power for good. The film culminates in a thrilling finale as Bill and Jane try to grapple with their place in the universe and how to control their newfound power.

Overall, Socket is a unique and thought-provoking science fiction tale that poses interesting questions about the human condition and our relationship with technology. It's a movie that moves gradually while delivering a resonant message in the end. The film features impressive performances from the entire cast, particularly Derek Long and Alexandra Billings, who portray Bill and Jane stunningly. The direction and production value are great, and the special effects are topnotch. Indeed, Socket is a compelling and engaging film that all sci-fi and drama lovers will find enjoyable.
