In the movie Son of the Sunshine, we follow the story of a young man named Sonny Parsons, played by Ryan Ward. Sonny has been struggling with mental illness since he was a child, and he has a hard time fitting in with society as a result. He lives with his mother, played by Rebecca McMahon, who is also struggling to make ends meet and keep their home life stable. Sonny relies on medication to help him manage his illness, but he often feels like he's not living up to his potential.

Sonny's life takes a dramatic turn when he meets a young woman named Cherise, played by Shantelle Canzanese. Cherise is outgoing and free-spirited, and she encourages Sonny to break out of his shell and embrace life more fully. Sonny is hesitant at first, but he soon discovers that Cherise is exactly what he needs to help him find his place in the world.

As Sonny and Cherise's relationship deepens, Sonny begins to confront some of the issues that have been holding him back. He starts to question the way his medication is affecting him, and he wonders if he might be better off without it. He also begins to explore his creative side, and he starts to write and perform music with Cherise's encouragement.

As Sonny's life starts to improve, he is forced to confront some long-buried secrets from his past. He learns that his father, who he always thought had abandoned him, had actually died in a tragic accident when Sonny was a child. Sonny's mother had lied to him all these years to protect him from the truth, and Sonny struggles to come to terms with the fact that his whole life has been built on a lie.

Despite the challenges he faces, Sonny remains determined to live his life to the fullest. He continues to write and perform music, and he becomes a local celebrity thanks to his talent and his compelling story. He also continues to deepen his relationship with Cherise, and the two grow closer by the day.

In the end, Sonny's story is one of hope and resilience. He shows us that even when life throws us curveballs, we can still find joy and meaning in our experiences. With strong performances from the lead actors, Son of the Sunshine is a powerful exploration of mental illness, creativity, and the human spirit.
