Soul Men is a comedy-drama movie released in 2008, directed by Malcolm D. Lee. The movie stars Samuel L. Jackson and the late Bernie Mac, both of whom play two estranged former bandmates, Louis and Floyd respectively. The film also features Sharon Leal, who plays Louis' daughter, and Sean Hayes, who plays the band's former tour manager.

The plot of the movie revolves around the reunion of Louis and Floyd, almost 20 years after their band - the Real Deal - broke up over a dispute. The sudden death of their former band leader, Marcus Hooks, brings the two together, as they embark on a road trip to perform at his tribute concert at the Apollo Theater in New York.

Though Louis and Floyd have had a bitter history, their resentment towards each other becomes evident right from the start of their journey. Louis, a struggling mechanic, has not been able to come to terms with the fact that Floyd left the group at the peak of their success to pursue a solo career. Floyd, on the other hand, is still angry at Louis for sabotaging his career by pushing him out of the band. Despite their differences, the two decide to set aside their grudges for one final performance.

However, as they hit the road, they find themselves in a series of comical situations. From running into their former manager, Cleo, who is now a successful record label executive, to being chased by a crazed fan and getting into a car accident; the two have to face various obstacles before they can reach their destination.

The situation is further complicated when they have to pick up Louis' daughter, Cleo, who he has never met, from a correctional facility in which she was serving time for drug abuse. Cleo initially resists their attempts to bond with her, but over the course of their journey, they find a way to reconcile and connect with each other.

The movie takes its title 'Soul Men' from the genre of music that the Real Deal used to play – Soul music. The movie makes heavy use of soul music tracks throughout its runtime, with performances by the likes of Isaac Hayes, John Legend, and a slew of contemporary artists. The musical numbers in the movie are done with great aplomb, and provide a ton of entertainment to the viewers.

Overall, Soul Men is a touching and hilarious movie that manages to balance laughs with nostalgia, and drama with music. It is a fitting tribute to the late Bernie Mac, who delivers another one of his trademark performances. Samuel L. Jackson is equally impressive, bringing depth and humor to his role as Louis. Sharon Leal also deserves mention for her portrayal of Cleo, who goes through a range of emotions over the course of their journey.

The movie deals with themes of betrayal, regret, and forgiveness, and shows that even though relationships can be complicated, the love and the bond that we share with the people we care about can stand the test of time. While the movie is not without its flaws, it is an enjoyable watch that will leave you tapping your feet and humming along to the music of a bygone era.

Soul Men is a 2008 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 39 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.4 and a MetaScore of 49.
