After a ten-year hiatus, the Species film series returned with Species III in 2004. The film is directed by Brad Turner and written by Ben Ripley. Most of the cast from the previous installment returned, with Robin Dunne playing Dean, the half-human, half-alien son of Sil - the hybrid alien queen from the first Species film. The movie starts with the birth of Sara, the daughter of Eve, a member of the alien species known as Sil's species or simply "Sil." Sara is half-human, half-alien, with extraordinary abilities, including rapid healing and telekinesis. The primary focus of the film is the scientists' attempts to capture and study Sara, as a result of her unique genetic makeup.

Throughout the movie, Sara becomes aware that she is different from others and begins to explore the limits of her abilities - sometimes resulting in the death of those who cross her. Meanwhile, Dean and his girlfriend, Amelia, seek to protect Sara and keep her away from the scientists who wish to experiment on her.

The plot thickens as scientists discover that they can create "duplicates" of Sara - identical copies devoid of emotion and with no connection to humanity. These copies are seen as potential weapons, with the ability to bring humanity to its knees.

The movie explores the themes of identity, belonging, and the morality of science experiments. Sara must come to terms with her identity and the fact that she may never be able to live among humans without being seen as a threat. Dean and Amelia must navigate the dangerous waters of protecting Sara while eluding the pursuing scientists.

Species III relies heavily on action and special effects to tell its story, with a lot of on-screen violence and gore. The science fiction elements of the plot are leaned into heavily, with the story often taking a backseat to the stunning visuals. That being said, the story is engaging, and the characters are well-developed, making it worth a watch for fans of the genre.

One of the most notable aspects of the film is the performance of Sunny Mabrey as Sara. She manages to convey both the vulnerability and power of the character with ease, making the audience root for her throughout the film. Robin Dunne also puts in a solid performance as Dean, the man torn between his love for his girlfriend and his need to protect his half-sibling.

The film received mixed reviews but was praised for its visual effects and action sequences. Critics also noted that the film suffers from a lack of originality and a somewhat shallow storytelling approach. However, for fans of the Species franchise or those looking for a sci-fi action flick, Species III delivers in spades.

Overall, Species III is a solid contribution to the Species franchise. While it may not have the depth of some other science fiction films, it makes up for it with stunning visuals and some truly impressive action sequences. The movie is well cast and well executed and should have no problem entertaining its intended audience.

Species III is a 2004 science fiction movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 51 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.2.
