The movie has a storyline that deals with the importance of friendship as well as being loyal to friends and family. The movie also emphasizes the importance of teamwork and perseverance. The story is based on a musical group called The Five Ovations. This group is made up of five friends that are still attending middle school. These friends are from Atlantic City, New Jersey. While the girls do not have much money they do have a strong friendship. This group wins a national music video contest and becomes famous almost overnight. The group has some good times and some bad time. This group of young people experiences the problems that many preteens do. The only differences is that the average teenager is not famous and in the media spotlight. The Five Ovations also have problems with rival singing groups. This other group is called The Wiggies. They are also five young girls that can sing. The difference is that these girls are sisters and they come from a wealthy family. They are used to getting their way and exactly what they want.
The Five Ovations and The Wiggies are in a singing contest for a chance to win one million dollars. The Wiggies do everything they can to mess up the Five Ovation's performance. They go out of the way to sabotage them. The Five Ovations do not retaliate. They rely on their talent and friendship to win the contest.
