"Sunglass" is a captivating drama-comedy movie that revolves around a strange but fun chain of events that ensues when a young woman, Diya (Konkona Sen Sharma), mistakenly takes someone else's sunglasses from a Cafe in Kolkata. Diya's sunglasses happen to belong to a psychologist, Dr. Nitya Mukherjee (Jaya Bachchan), who, following an unfortunate turn of events, has just arrived in Kolkata for a conference on Psychology. Dr. Mukherjee, who is unhappily married, is in the city to present a paper on her groundbreaking research, which has raised controversies and attracted both acclaim and criticism.

When Diya tries to return the glasses to Dr. Mukherjee, a series of unplanned events unfold. We learn that the glasses contain pictures of her past patients, which Diya looks through, in turn leading to her meeting two other unique patients of the psychologist, Prosenjit (Raima Sen) and Dipankar (Tota Roy Chowdhury). Both patients have been treated and cured by Dr. Mukherjee through unconventional and sometimes bizarre methods.

The two also form a special bond with Diya, who helps both of them regain their confidence and self-esteem. As a result, Diya gets drawn into their world, gaining a unique perspective into the idiosyncrasies of human nature and emotional healing.

As the film unravels, a parallel storyline develops between Dr. Mukherjee and her husband (Naseeruddin Shah), a wealthy businessman, on whom she had successfully performed hypnotherapy to cure his malice and hostility, which had made his life a living hell.

The plot takes a turn when Dr. Mukherjee's past catches up with her, and her husband discovers her hypnotherapy sessions from years back, leading to a series of events that are exhilarating, moving and funny.

Director Rituparno Ghosh has crafted Sunglass in a way to showcase his intelligent storytelling and the art of balancing emotional drama and humor effortlessly. The movie acts as an intriguing examination of human emotions and condition, and our innate desire to understand ourselves and those around us.

As far as performances go, Jaya Bachchan is excellent in the portrayal of Dr. Mukherjee, who brings depth and emotion to her portrayal of the psychologist. Her therapeutic methods, though unconventional, are humane, and the picture she paints of the role of psychotherapists in society is significant.

Raima Sen's portrayal of Prosenjit is wholly refreshing, and so is Tota Roy Chowdhury's turn as Dipankar. Konkona Sen Sharma brings the necessary complexity, empathy, and humor that the story requires, and as always, Naseeruddin Shah's brilliant craft enriches the story's foundation throughout.

All the characters in Sunglass are well defined, multidimensional, and engaging. Each one reveals a different aspect of the human psyche and puts on display the various methods with which people cope with their existence.

To sum up, "Sunglass" combines playful dialogue, a witty sense of humor, and a cast of top-flight actors to craft an exceptional film that provides entertainment and insight into the human condition. The film's emotional depth and laugh-out-loud comical moments make it an absolute must-see. And, while it may have released almost a decade ago, it remains a fresh and relevant film that continues to stand the test of time.
