Super is a 2005 action-comedy film directed by Joe Russo and written by James Gunn. The film stars Steve Howey as a man named Frank, who takes on the role of a superhero known as The Crimson Bolt after his wife Sarah (played by Leslie Bibb) leaves him for a drug dealer named Jacques (played by Kevin Bacon). Frank becomes obsessed with stopping crime and cleaning up the streets, but he quickly realizes that being a superhero is not as easy as he thought. He creates a costume and wields a pipe wrench as his weapon of choice, but he soon finds himself in over his head when he comes up against some dangerous criminals.

Frank meets a young woman named Libby (played by Ellen Page), who becomes his sidekick and names herself Boltie. Libby is enthusiastic about being a superhero and helps Frank on his quest to take down Jacques and his gang. However, her enthusiasm for violence and disregard for human life soon puts them both in danger.

Meanwhile, Sarah struggles with her own demons as she becomes trapped in Jacques' world of drugs and crime. She tries to reach out to Frank, but he is too focused on his mission to save her.

As the story unfolds, Frank and Libby's antics become increasingly violent and chaotic. Their actions attract the attention of a local detective named John Felkner (played by Don Mac), who begins to investigate them.

Super is a dark, hilarious, and often brutal take on the superhero genre. It explores the idea of what it would be like if an ordinary person decided to become a superhero, and the consequences that come with that decision.

The film features standout performances from its cast, particularly Steve Howey and Ellen Page. Howey is perfectly cast as the bumbling Frank, while Page shines as the unpredictable and unstable Boltie.

The script, written by James Gunn, is sharp and witty, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. However, it also takes some dark turns, and the violence can be shocking at times.

Overall, Super is an underrated gem that deserves more attention. It's a unique, subversive take on the superhero genre that is both funny and thought-provoking. If you enjoy dark comedies or superhero movies that break the mold, this is a film you won't want to miss.
