Tathastu is an Indian drama film from 2006, starring Sanjay Dutt, Ameesha Patel and Jaya Prada in the lead roles. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, it is the story of a man's determination to save the life of his critically ill son at any cost. The movie revolves around Ravi (Sanjay Dutt), a hardworking and loving father who runs a small garage. His world comes crashing down when his young son, Rohan, falls seriously ill and is diagnosed with a rare heart condition. Doctors inform Ravi that the only way to save Rohan's life is through an urgent heart transplant that is very expensive and can only be done in the United States.

Ravi and his wife, Sarita (Ameesha Patel), are devastated as they don't have the financial means to afford the treatment. Ravi tries everything in his power to come up with the money, but his efforts prove futile. In desperation, he approaches a wealthy businesswoman, Gayatri (Jaya Prada), who he previously helped and asks her for help. Gayatri, who has strong connections in the system, agrees to help Ravi on one condition - he has to kidnap a top government official's son.

Desperate to save his own son's life, Ravi is left with no choice but to kidnap the official's son. He uses his expertise as a mechanic to execute the kidnapping but soon realizes that his actions have set off a chain of events that he cannot control. The police get involved, and Ravi becomes a wanted criminal. With the pressure mounting, Ravi has to find a way to complete the mission and save his son without getting caught.

The movie challenges the viewer to take a hard look at the health care system in India and the challenges ordinary people face when their loved ones fall critically ill. It raises some pertinent questions about corruption in the system, access to healthcare and the role of the wealthy in bridging the gap between the haves and the have-nots. The film also highlights the sacrifices that parents make for their children and the lengths they will go to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

The performances of the main actors are noteworthy, with Sanjay Dutt delivering an emotional and powerful portrayal of a father willing to do anything to save his son's life. His vulnerability and determination tug at the heartstrings of the audience. Ameesha Patel is convincing as his supportive wife, who helps him through the difficult times. Jaya Prada, in a strong supporting role, lends an air of mystery and intrigue to the character of Gayatri.

The film's technical aspects are well executed, with commendable cinematography and music composition. The background score adds to the overall tension of the movie, while the songs provide a necessary break from the seriousness of the situation and serve to drive the narrative forward.

In conclusion, Tathastu is a poignant drama that tells a very human story of a father's love and the sacrifices he makes for his child. It is an intense watch but also highlights some of the deeper issues facing society. Despite its flaws, it's a solid movie that is well worth watching.

Tathastu is a 2006 drama. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.5.
