In the small town of Greccio, Italy, an eerie presence looms over its inhabitants. A group of locals gather at the home of their late friend, Dr. Eswai (played by Walter Brandi), after receiving mysterious invitations to attend a reading of his will. They soon realize that they have been summoned to help put Eswai's restless spirits to rest; spirits that he believes have returned from the grave to seek their revenge on those who wronged them.

The film, Terror-Creatures from the Grave, directed by Massimo Pupillo and released in 1965, is a classic horror story that features the queen of gothic horror herself, Barbara Steele, in the lead role of Dr. Eswai's widow, Corinne. Steele, with her stunning looks and powerful onscreen presence, brings an air of menace and intrigue to the film that keeps the viewers engaged throughout.

As the group arrives at the Eswai estate, they are met with a foreboding and ominous setting. The house is decrepit, rundown, and harbors a macabre atmosphere that hints at the horrors to come. The guests are greeted by Corinne, who is still grieving the loss of her husband and is unwelcoming of their intrusion. Meanwhile, Eswai's assistant, Dr. Paul (played by Renato Terra), remains aloof and distant, his intentions murky at best.

The group soon learns that they have been summoned to help uncover the source of the dark magic that has been plaguing the town. The townspeople have been suffering from strange and brutal deaths, with bodies turning up in gruesome condition. The remaining characters, including a journalist, a lawyer, and the mayor of the town, along with a few more, find themselves trapped in the Eswai estate, unable to leave due to the raging storms outside.

As the night grows darker, the creatures from the grave begin to appear, attacking the guests with fierce vengeance. Specters, ghouls, and presumably undead creatures soon break loose and start to haunt the house, evoking a sense of dread and foreboding. Viewers are shown grotesque close-ups of mutilated bodies, and the film's score complements the horrific imagery effectively.

But there is more to the story than just these supernatural elements. The film features a well-crafted mystery that keeps the audience guessing throughout. The guests soon discover that Dr. Eswai had been dabbling in black magic, and it may have been his research that has unleashed these beasts from the grave. The suspense builds as the guests try to unravel the puzzling clues that Eswai left behind, working hard to find a way to stop the creatures and end the curse on the town's people.

With a runtime of 87 minutes, the film manages to pack in enough action, suspense, and horror elements to keep the viewers engaged. The story strikes a balance between the supernatural, the psychological, and the procedural, each element contributing to the film's overall effectiveness.

All in all, Terror-Creatures from the Grave is a well-executed horror movie from the mid-sixties, featuring an impressive performance from the genre icon, Barbara Steele. With its inventive plot, memorable imagery, and haunting music, this film is sure to satisfy horror fans who appreciate classic horror films.
