Texas Across the River is a Western comedy film released in 1966 by Universal Pictures. Directed by Michael Gordon, the movie features an all-star cast including Dean Martin, Alain Delon, and Rosemary Forsyth. The plot follows a greedy corporal, Don Andrea Baldazar (Alain Delon), who schemes to marry an American woman, Phoebe Ann (Rosemary Forsyth), for her land. When Baldazar realizes that Phoebe Ann is already married, he reevaluates his plan and instead sets his sights on stealing a large herd of cattle from the Texas town of Peckinpah. Along the way, he teams up with the laid-back Sam Hollis (Dean Martin) to execute his scheme.

The movie is set in the mid-19th century in Texas and has a unique plot that combines elements of a Western and a comedy. The film begins with Don Andrea Baldazar sneaking into Louisiana to propose marriage to Phoebe Ann. He is unaware that Phoebe is already married to Sam Hollis, a Texas Ranger who was sent to Louisiana to bring her back to Texas. When Baldazar finds out that Phoebe is already married, he decides to pursue a different plan to get the land that he covets, by stealing a herd of cattle.

Dean Martin plays the role of Sam Hollis, a laid-back Texas Ranger who is tasked with bringing Phoebe Ann back to Texas. Sam Hollis is reluctant to do so, as he has fallen in love with Phoebe himself. After discovering that Baldazar is planning to steal the cattle from the town of Peckinpah, Sam Hollis decides to team up with Baldazar to execute the plan. The unlikely pairing of the two men leads to some humorous situations, as Baldazar struggles to adjust to the Texan way of life.

Rosemary Forsyth plays the role of Phoebe Ann, the woman caught in the middle of the plot. Phoebe is a feisty and independent woman who does not conform to the traditional gender roles of the time. She is married to Sam, but is not afraid to express her desire for Baldazar, leading to a rivalry between the two men.

The supporting cast includes many well-known actors of the time, such as Joey Bishop, Peter Graves, and Michael Ansara. The town of Peckinpah is also populated by a colorful cast of characters, including a group of German settlers who have a penchant for sausage-making.

The movie includes many elements of a traditional Western, such as shootouts, horseback riding, and cattle drives. However, it also incorporates comedic elements, particularly in the interactions between Baldazar and Sam Hollis. The movie features a score composed by Maurice Jarre, who is known for his work on films such as Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago.

Overall, Texas Across the River is an entertaining Western comedy that features an all-star cast and unique plot. The movie combines traditional elements of the Western genre with lighthearted humor, making it an enjoyable watch for fans of both genres. The chemistry between Alain Delon and Dean Martin is particularly noteworthy, and the film's score by Maurice Jarre adds to the overall enjoyment of the film.
