The Delta Force is a 1986 American action-thriller movie directed by Menahem Golan and starring some of the greats of the genre: Chuck Norris, Lee Marvin, and Martin Balsam. It is loosely based on the real-life hijacking of TWA Flight 847 by Lebanese militants in 1985. The movie opens in Athens, Greece, where a group of Islamic terrorists, led by Abdul Rafai (Robert Forster) and Mustafa (David Menachem), hijack a commercial airliner bound for Rome and demand the release of their Lebanon-based comrades. Among the passengers are a group of American tourists, including the retired Delta Force operative Major Scott McCoy (Chuck Norris) and his friend, Father William O'Malley (George Kennedy).

What follows is a tense standoff between the terrorists and the Greek authorities, and the Delta Force is called in by the U.S. government to help resolve the crisis. Led by the gruff Colonel Nick Alexander (Lee Marvin), the Delta Force launches a daring rescue mission that takes them from the Middle East to Europe and back again.

Throughout the movie, the audience is treated to high-octane action sequences, including a thrilling raid on a terrorist hideout in Beirut, a helicopter chase through the streets of Rome, and an explosive finale at an airport in Algiers. Chuck Norris shines as the stoic McCoy, who must balance his personal vendetta against Abdul Rafai with his duty to save innocent lives. Lee Marvin brings his trademark toughness and gravitas to the role of Alexander, while Martin Balsam provides comic relief as the Delta Force's supply officer.

Although the movie is undoubtedly a product of its time, with its jingoistic tone and simplistic portrayal of Middle Eastern politics, it remains a visceral and entertaining action movie that delivers on its promise of non-stop thrills. The Delta Force has all the hallmarks of the classic era of action movies, with its macho heroes, explosive set pieces, and pulse-pounding score by Alan Silvestri.

One of the movie's strengths is its ability to balance its action-packed set pieces with moments of genuine emotion and character development. Norris and Kennedy have a touching rapport as two old friends who find themselves caught up in a perilous situation, and the movie also explores the inner turmoil of some of the terrorists, who are not portrayed simply as one-dimensional villains.

Overall, The Delta Force is an adrenaline-fueled rollercoaster ride of a movie that will thrill fans of the action genre. Its mix of thrilling action sequences, charismatic performances, and heartwarming moments make it a classic of its time and a must-see for any fan of Chuck Norris or Lee Marvin.

The Delta Force is a 1986 action movie with a runtime of 2 hours and 10 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.6 and a MetaScore of 37.
