The Uninvited is a 2009 thriller movie directed by Charles Guard and Thomas Guard. It's a remake of the Korean movie A Tale of Two Sisters directed by Kim Jee-Woon. The movie follows the story of Anna, played by Emily Browning, who gets out of a mental institution after a suicide attempt. She returns home to her father and sister, played by David Strathairn and Arielle Kebbel respectively. Her mother died in a fire accident some years ago, which is the reason Anna tried to commit suicide. She claims that her mother's ghost visited her and asked her to come back home.

Anna's return home is not as joyous as expected. Her sister Alex is not happy with her presence, and Anna seems to have trouble adjusting. She starts having nightmares and visions involving her mother and her mother's nurse Rachel, played by Elizabeth Banks. Anna believes that Rachel is conniving with her dad and sister to keep her quiet about her mother's death.

As Anna tries to uncover the truth, she becomes more and more isolated, and things start getting more mysterious. She discovers that her father is having an affair with Rachel, which makes her doubt his version of her mother's death.

The ghosts and spirits become more prominent, and the lines between reality and Anna's visions get blurry. The audience is left wondering whether Anna's visions are real, or she's hallucinating due to her trauma and mental illness.

Through the movie, the plot twists and turns, all the while maintaining an eerie tone. The score is subtle yet effective at heightening the tension. The cinematography paints the picture of a hauntingly beautiful mansion by the sea in the Pacific Northwest that serves as the primary location. The overall aesthetic of the movie feels like a giant puzzle with pieces that don't seem to fit seamlessly together.

The Uninvited creates a horror atmosphere that keeps viewers gripping the edge of their seats. The performances of the primary cast are fantastic, particularly Emily Browning as Anna. The character's development is a highlight of the movie, and Browning brings in the right balance of vulnerability, strength, and creepiness to the role.

Elizabeth Banks's portrayal of Rachel adds complexity to the plot, and her performances make viewers question her motives repeatedly. Kebbel also puts on an impressive performance as Anna's skeptic sister, who adds to the overall tension of the movie.

The dichotomy between the cheerful brightness of the location and the ominous ominousness of the story adds another layer to the creepy setting of the movie.

The final reveal of the movie is unexpected and leaves the viewers wondering if they had missed any clues along the way. The twists and revelations satisfy the audiences' curiosity, yet the ambiguity in the story's ending leaves the viewers with a sense of unease.

Overall, The Uninvited provides a disturbing and thrilling story that will scare horror fans while challenging them to think critically. The eerie atmosphere and the brilliant performances of the primary cast create a movie that horror fans will enjoy watching repeatedly.

The Uninvited is a 2009 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 27 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.3 and a MetaScore of 43.
