The Boondock Saints is a 1999 action-crime film directed by Troy Duffy and starring Willem Dafoe, Sean Patrick Flanery, and Norman Reedus. The film follows the story of two Irish-American twins, Connor and Murphy MacManus, who become vigilantes and take on the Boston Mafia in an effort to rid the streets of evil and corruption. The movie begins with the MacManus brothers attending Sunday mass, where they witness a Russian mobster attempting to extort money from the priest. Later that night, the brothers beat the man to death and escape the scene unnoticed. The incident inspires the brothers to turn their lives around and become vigilantes, punishing those who they believe deserve it.

With the help of their friend Rocco, the MacManus brothers begin their crusade against evil in Boston. Their efforts do not go unnoticed, and they soon become a target of the local Mafia, who hire a hitman named Il Duce to take them out.

Meanwhile, FBI Agent Paul Smecker (played by Willem Dafoe) is assigned to the case and begins investigating the MacManus brothers, intrigued by their methods and motives. As he delves deeper, he starts to understand their perspective and even begins to sympathize with them.

The Boondock Saints is a fast-paced, action-packed film with plenty of violence and intense scenes. However, it also has a strong underlying theme of morality and justice. The MacManus brothers do not simply kill for the sake of killing, but rather, they target those who are corrupt and who prey on the innocent.

The characters in the film are well-developed, with each actor delivering strong performances. Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus have excellent chemistry as the MacManus brothers, and Willem Dafoe steals every scene he is in as Agent Paul Smecker. Rocco, played by David Della Rocco, also provides much-needed comic relief amidst the chaos.

The film's writing is sharp, with plenty of witty one-liners and memorable quotes. The action scenes are well choreographed and exciting, showcasing the MacManus brothers' skills as fighters and marksmen.

Overall, The Boondock Saints is a thrilling ride that keeps viewers engaged from start to finish. It has since become a cult classic and has spawned a sequel, as well as a devoted fanbase. While it may not be for everyone, fans of the crime genre will no doubt enjoy this action-packed adventure.

The Boondock Saints is a 2000 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 50 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.7 and a MetaScore of 44.
