A spaceship lands in New York, and when the government sees an alien species come out of the ship, they immediately start shooting at it. The alien is taken in by our military so we can try to save it, and learn from it. Saving the placenta like material helps defend ourselves against the aliens. When government gets the news that Keanu is an alien, he is brought in and heavily questioned. Keanu escapes the hands of the government in order to try and find a solution to this invasion of his people. Everyone starts to flood the streets in a crazed manner. Military personnel try desperately to come up with a plan of attack, in case the aliens attack. Many fear the worst and hope the government's plan of action works.
Keanu Reeves has the power to save mankind, but he doesn't want to save the humans because we won't change the things we do in life. After some coercion, he will soon realize that humans are worth saving. He puts his life on the line several times to try and save the life of two fellow humans. He brings those two people back to life, even if that means killing himself. At the end of the movie, Keanu Reeves shuts down the alien's operation and the spacecraft leaves New York. Critics and viewers alike gave The Day the Earth Stood Still mixed reviews.
