The Fly II is a 1989 horror/science fiction film that serves as a sequel to the 1986 remake of The Fly. Directed by Chris Walas and starring Eric Stoltz, Daphne Zuniga, and Lee Richardson, The Fly II follows the son of the original film's protagonist as he struggles with the legacy of his father's experiments. The film opens with a brief recap of the events of the first film before introducing us to Martin Brundle (Stoltz), the son of Seth Brundle (played in the first film by Jeff Goldblum). Martin is a scientific prodigy who has been raised in a laboratory by Bartok Industries, the company that purchased his father's research before he died. Martin has grown up under the watchful eye of Anton Bartok (Richardson), the CEO of the company, and has never been allowed to leave the facility.

As Martin approaches adulthood, he begins to question the true nature of the experiments being conducted at the lab. With the help of his love interest, Beth (Zuniga), Martin begins to investigate his father's work and discovers that Bartok Industries has been using his father's research to create genetically modified animals for use in military applications. Martin becomes increasingly disturbed by the unethical practices of the company and begins to fear for his own safety.

Throughout the film, Martin begins to exhibit symptoms of his father's infamous genetic experiment, which fused his DNA with that of a common housefly. As Martin's physical and mental state deteriorates, he becomes increasingly desperate to find a cure for his condition. With the help of a sympathetic scientist named Shepard (played by John Getz, who also appeared in the first film), Martin works to uncover the truth about his condition and the true intentions of Bartok Industries.

The Fly II is a visceral and disturbing film that pushes the boundaries of the horror genre. Fans of the first film will appreciate the many references and callbacks to the original story, while newcomers will find plenty to enjoy in the film's well-crafted blend of science fiction and horror. Eric Stoltz delivers a great performance as the tortured Martin Brundle, and the film's practical effects and makeup work are truly impressive.

While The Fly II may not be for everyone due to its graphic violence and disturbing imagery, it remains an important entry in the world of horror cinema. Its themes of ethical responsibility and the dangers of unchecked scientific ambition are as relevant today as they were in 1989. Overall, The Fly II is a worthy successor to the original film, and a must-see for fans of the horror genre.
