The main character Nisa is played by former Miss USA Laura Harring, in this tale of romance and dance. Nisa is a Brazilian princess who moves to LA in order to prevent a certain corporation from destroying her rainforest home. She brings along with her the tribe's shaman named Joa (Sid Haig). With the use of his magic, they get past the corporation's guards. An action which leads to Joa's imminent arrest.

This leaves Nisa alone in the city of LA. She has to fend for herself from then on, with only the help of her new friend Carmen (Angela Moya). She takes up work in a Beverly Hills mansion, working as the servant of an upper class, uptight couple. The son of her new employers, Jason (Jeff James), has a great passion for dancing. Nina finds this attractive and he finds her attractive in return, since she can dance quite well herself. Jason takes Nisa out to a club to meet his friends, who only end up insulting the girl. Jason's parents then scold him for dating "the help".

Nisa ends up running away and finds new employment, working as a provocative dancer in a club. Jason's girlfriend Ashley finds out about this and runs off to inform him in a sarcastic manner, that his girlfriend was working in such a place. Jason is obviously upset and goes to the club to remove Nisa from working there. He gets beaten up by a bouncer, who then proceeds to harass Nisa. This is when Joa pops up and magically paralyzes the bouncer. The shaman then heads back to the tribe in Brazil. At this point, Nisa and Jason begin to practice for a new number in a dancing competition.

Later on, Jason and Nisa win the dancing competition but the head of the corporation Benjamin Maxwell (played by Richard Lynch) shows up and kidnaps Nisa. Jason finds her, saves her, but then twists his ankle which hinders their chances of finishing up the show.

Backstage, Joa appears again to heal Jason's ankle. The dancing goes on and the crowd is pleased. While on stage, Nisa's king father shows up and dances along with them. They start a show promoting the saving of their rainforest and everyone breaks out into The Lambada.
