The Grand Budapest Hotel is a 2014 film directed by Wes Anderson that follows Gustave H (Ralph Fiennes), a concierge at a luxury hotel in the fictional European country of Zubrowka in the 1930s. Along with his Bellboy, Zero (Tony Revolori), Gustave provides his wealthy and elderly female guests with exceptional service and companionship, much to the chagrin of their jealous relatives.

When one of Gustave's lovers, Madame D (Tilda Swinton), dies mysteriously and leaves him with a valuable painting, he becomes the prime suspect in her murder and is thrown into jail. With the help of Zero and his own wit and charm, Gustave escapes from prison and embarks on a wild adventure to clear his name and retrieve the painting, all while being pursued by a henchman of Madame D's son, Dmitri (Adrien Brody), who wants the painting for himself.

The story is recounted by an elderly Zero (F. Murray Abraham) to a writer (Jude Law) in the present day, who is staying at the now dilapidated Grand Budapest Hotel. Through his vivid storytelling, we are transported back to a time of glamour and luxury, as well as political upheaval and war.

The film is visually stunning, featuring Anderson's signature style of bright colors, quirky sets, and elaborate camera work. Everything from the costumes to the typography is visually striking, and the attention to detail is impeccable. The production design, done by Adam Stockhausen, won the Academy Award for Best Production Design in 2015.

The performances in The Grand Budapest Hotel are also top-notch. Ralph Fiennes shines as Gustave, displaying both his impeccable manners and his ruthless determination. He is also given plenty of snappy dialogue to work with, making Gustave one of Anderson's most memorable characters. Tony Revolori is also fantastic as Zero, providing the perfect foil to Gustave's larger-than-life personality.

The supporting cast is equally impressive, with notable performances from Tilda Swinton as the eccentric Madame D, Adrien Brody as the villainous Dmitri, and Willem Dafoe as Dmitri's henchman, Jopling.

Despite its light-hearted and whimsical tone, The Grand Budapest Hotel also deals with some weighty themes, including fascism, war, and the decline of the aristocracy. Anderson manages to seamlessly weave these darker elements into the story without compromising the film's overall charm and humor.

Overall, The Grand Budapest Hotel is a delightful and entertaining film that showcases Anderson's unique vision and the talents of its talented cast and crew. It received critical acclaim and was a box office success, grossing over $174 million worldwide. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning four, including Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Original Score.

The Grand Budapest Hotel is a 2014 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 39 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 8.1 and a MetaScore of 88.
