This film is based on the New York Times Bestseller The Hunger Games, A popular teen novel /series that has received the best reviews. This novel was written by the Author, Suzanne Collins who thought of the characters and created the plot. This book was so captivated that it got the attention of many Hollywood directors who attempted it into the film. The movie was directed by: Gary Ross and its screenplay was done by the following: Gary Ross, Suzanne Collins and Billy Ray. Bringing life to The Hunger Games include an all star cast which includes: Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Donald Sutherland, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Stanely Tucci and Woody Harrelson. The Genre of the film is a well-done mixture of action, suspense, drama, love and science fiction.

The setting of The Hunger Games takes place in a nation called Panem where a televised event called the hunger games is very popular. This nation is a futuristic and it includes 12 small and poor districts and the wealthy capitol city. This nation makes young people such as boys and girls, who are around the ages of 12 and 18, partake in the televised Hunger Games. During The Hunger Games, the boys and girls are called "tributes." The Tributes are forced to partake in a vicious battle and must kill one another until there is only one tribute left and is awarded as the victor. Whoever wins the Hunger Games will be awarded with a life of prestige and wealth; the losers will be dead. The Tributes get selected to a lottery-like raffle that takes place in the 12 districts of Panem. Whoever gets selected must participate in the games; where the chances of survival are 1 in 12.

The plot of the story takes us to the district 12 where a young girl called Rosalie gets picked to become a tribute. She is shown crying because she believes that she doesn't have what it takes to make it out alive. Her sister and the protagonist of the film, Katniss, decides to volunteer herself to take Rosalie's place in the games. After being accepted as the district 12's new tribute, Katniss teams up with the handsome male tribute called Peeta Mellark and they both head to the capital in order to train and be prepared for the games. In the capital, Katniss and Peeta meet a former winner of the games, Haymitch Abernathy who will offer the duo counseling and training for the Hunger Games. This film features plenty of arrow shooting action, life or death battles and even a love triangle. The characters include:

Katniss Everdeen: The protagonist of the film, she saves her sister's life by substituting herself as the district 12 tribute. Katinss is brave and will do anything to protect her family.

Peeta Mellark: Peeta is the male tribute of the district 12 in the hunger games. He soon teams up with Katniss in the games. He soon falls in love with Katniss and believes that she will win the games. He will do anything to protect Katniss.

The rest of the characters include: Primrose, Rue, Frinnick, Haymitch and Gale.

The Hunger Games is a 2012 science fiction movie with a runtime of 2 hours and 22 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.2 and a MetaScore of 68.
