The Night Flier is a horror movie from 1997 directed by Mark Pavia and based on a short story by Stephen King. The movie stars Miguel Ferrer as Richard Dees, a cynical and cutthroat journalist who works for a sensationalist tabloid called Inside View. Julie Entwisle plays Katherine Blair, a novice journalist who accompanies Dees as he investigates a series of gruesome murders in rural New England. Dan Monahan has a brief role as Merton Morrison, a hapless airport worker who becomes a witness to the strange and terrifying events unfolding in the area.

The movie opens with Dees and Blair arriving at a small airport in search of a mysterious figure known as the Night Flier. According to rumors and eyewitness accounts, the Night Flier is a nocturnal creature who flies a black plane with no lights and lands in obscure airfields throughout the region. The Night Flier is also said to be a vampire who preys on the blood of hapless victims. Dees, who is obsessed with the story and the potential for a big scoop, is skeptical of the vampire angle and dismisses most of the evidence as hoaxes or exaggerations. Blair, on the other hand, is more open-minded and curious, and she tries to uncover the truth behind the rumors.

As Dees and Blair investigate the murders, they encounter various eccentric characters and disturbing clues. They visit deserted airports, talk to frightened witnesses, and analyze crime scenes. Dees, who is a veteran reporter with a reputation for ruthlessness, uses his charm and cunning to manipulate people and get the information he needs. Blair, who is a young and idealistic reporter with a sense of empathy, tries to connect with the victims and understand their suffering. Together, they form an uneasy partnership and delve deeper into the mystery of the Night Flier.

The tension and suspense of the movie increase as Dees and Blair get closer to the truth. They encounter unexpected obstacles, dangerous situations, and disturbing visions. They also confront their own demons and fears. Dees, who is haunted by his own past and his addiction to adrenaline, begins to feel the weight of the story and the toll it takes on him. Blair, who is inexperienced and vulnerable, starts to question her own role in the investigation and her own safety. The Night Flier, meanwhile, remains elusive and enigmatic, leaving a trail of blood and terror.

The Night Flier combines elements of classic horror movies with modern journalism and technology. The black-and-white images of the Night Flier's plane and the eerie sound effects create a haunting and surreal atmosphere. The use of computer graphics and special effects also adds to the movie's visual appeal and intensity. The characters and their interactions are also well-drawn and realistic, with Ferrer and Entwisle delivering memorable performances that balance cynicism and idealism, fear and curiosity, and humor and horror.

The Night Flier is not a conventional horror movie, but a complex and provocative exploration of the dark side of human nature and the power of myth and legend. It raises questions about the role of the media in shaping public perception, the impact of violence and fear on society, and the elusive nature of truth and justice. The movie ends with a chilling and ambiguous twist that leaves the audience questioning their own assumptions and beliefs.
