Things are going well for Jill until one day when she suffers a serious accident during a race. The accident leaves her paralyzed from the neck down and changes her life forever.

The rest of the movie focuses on Jill's struggle to come to terms with her new reality. She is devastated by the accident and struggles to find meaning in her life. Her relationship with Tommy becomes strained as she withdraws from him and others around her. Jill eventually finds hope in the form of a new boyfriend, also named John, who is a photographer. John helps Jill to rediscover her love of nature and the beauty of the world around her. He takes her on trips to the mountains, and she rediscovers her joy in skiing, even though she is no longer able to do it herself.

The movie ends with Jill giving a speech to a group of disabled children in which she tells them that they are not alone and that there is hope for them. She also emphasizes that disabled people can still lead fulfilling lives and experience joy, even though their bodies may work differently than other people's.
