The Proposal

Jennifer Aniston plays this boss who is a real jerk to her employees. She is an editor at a book publishing company with an assistant who has given her a book he had written and who has dreams of being an editor as well one day. When they go into her meeting with her boss though, things turn for the worse pretty quickly when she finds that since she hasn't renewed her visa, she's on the verge of being deported back to Canada. That's when the idea forms that she will say she's engaged to her assistant. She knew he was wanting to go home to his family, so they planned it that she was actually going there to announce the news.

When you meet his family, you find that they are sort of quirky. The father is quite wealthy and owns half the town. They live in a small town in Alaska and the father just isn't happy that his son wants to be an editor and hasn't reached that goal. His mother tries to keep the peace the best she can. The grandmother is what bonds the family together.

You learn many things about the boss though. She never had family. When father and son begin to fight, the son is all for the scheme. Even if he could go to jail if caught. They are at the welcome home party for the son where he announces it and they are forced to play this game the best they can so no one catches on. The son runs into his ex fiancee.

The boss learns what family is all about as they prepare for the wedding which will take place in the barn where the rest of the family has had their ceremony at. The boss and assistant learn many things about eachother. At the wedding, the boss calls it off and admits her plan. They were already in danger because the father spoke with the person assigned to her case and told about the situation the boss is in. When she heads back to New York to gather her things and to get out of the country, the son goes after her. He finds that he has fallen in love with her as crazy as it might seem. She's reluctant to marry him for real when he finally catches up to her after the bickering with his family as they learn the truth. However, all ends on a good note.
