The Rape of the Sabine Women is based on the Roman legend of the same name. As per the story, the early Romans had wanted to marry members of the Sabine clan. When the elders refused them, the Romans simply carried off the women. When the Sabine men tried to retaliate, the Romans defeated them in battle.
