The Wicked is a 2014 horror movie directed by Peter Winther, who is best known for his work on Independence Day and Stargate. The movie is set in a small town in Maine and follows the story of a group of teenagers who accidentally awaken an ancient evil while exploring a haunted house on Halloween. The movie opens with a prologue that introduces us to the backstory of the haunted house. Decades ago, a religious cult known as "The Children of the New Dawn" used to live in the house and conducted sacrificial rites to their pagan gods. The townspeople eventually caught wind of what was going on and raided the house, killing most of the cult members. However, a few managed to escape and have been hiding in the surrounding woods ever since.

Cut to present-day, and we are introduced to a group of teenagers who are planning to spend their Halloween night exploring the abandoned house. The group consists of Tyler (played by Devon Graye), Zach (played by Justin Deeley), Becca (played by Jamie Kaler), and Mick (played by Jess Adams). The group meets up with a local girl named Cassie (played by Emily Tennant), who warns them about the house's dark history but still decides to tag along.

As they make their way into the house, strange things start happening, including doors slamming shut, objects moving on their own, and ghostly apparitions appearing in the hallways. The group soon realizes that they have awakened an ancient evil that has been dormant in the house since the cult's demise. The evil takes the form of a witch who was supposedly burned at the stake by the townspeople, and now seeks revenge on the descendants of those who killed her.

As the night wears on, the group tries desperately to find a way out of the house and escape the witch's wrath. Along the way, they encounter several other characters, including a local priest (played by Vinnie Jones) and a mysterious stranger (played by Christian Slater). It soon becomes apparent that the witch's power is too strong to be stopped by conventional means, and the group must find a way to defeat her before it's too late.

The movie's plot follows a fairly standard horror movie template, with plenty of jump scares and gore to keep the audience entertained. The special effects are decent, and the haunted house is suitably creepy and atmospheric. However, the movie suffers from some pacing issues, with long stretches of exposition and dialogue that slow down the action. The acting is also a mixed bag, with some of the actors delivering hammy performances that border on self-parody.

Overall, The Wicked is a decent horror movie that will satisfy fans of the genre. While it's not exactly groundbreaking, it's a fun enough way to spend a Halloween night. The movie's biggest strength is its ability to create an eerie, haunting atmosphere that keeps the audience on edge from beginning to end.

The Wicked is a 2014 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 31 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.8.
