Three... Extremes II is a chilling horror anthology film comprised of three separate vignettes, each directed by a renowned filmmaker hailing from various countries. Released in 2002, this movie presents a fusion of Korean, Japanese and Chinese horror as executed by the three talented directors who handled each unique storyline. The movie begins with "Memories," the contribution of Japanese director Takashi Shimizu. This particular segment delves into the mind of a young woman named Yoshie, portrayed by South Korean actress Kim Hye-su. Yoshie believes that the ghosts from her past continue to haunt her. The ghosts that she is referring to are her old twin sister who died in an accident and her abusive mother. Her therapist, Ms. Toh, reminds her that it was not her fault and that those events are beyond her control, but Yoshie feels otherwise. As the story progresses, the audience is given glimpses of the traumatic events that shaped Yoshie's childhood. Yoshie desperately seeks peace and closure but is tormented by disturbing memories and visions.

The second installment of Three... Extremes II is entitled "Somne", directed by South Korean filmmaker Kim Jee-woon. The segment is a psychological thriller that features two women who are connected by their desire to succeed as an opera singer. A famous singer, Hae-ju, played by Korean actor Jung Bo-seok, is the target of the younger and aspiring soprano, Eun-ju, played by Lee Yeon-hee. Eun-Ju is willing to do anything to achieve her dreams, even if it means harming others in the process. During a horrifying and dreamlike sequence, Eun-ju visits a plastic surgeon who offers her a bizarre and terrifying solution to gaining a perfect voice, allowing for the possibility of becoming better than her competition.

Finally, the third and final segment of the movie, directed by Hong Kong's Peter Chan, is called "Going Home". The protagonist of this film is a successful horror novelist named Yau played by Leon Lai. Yau is living in isolation in his secluded beach house which is surrounded by thick woods. One dark and stormy evening, Yau seeks refuge from the storm and an injured woman named Chin arrives at his doorstep. Yau lets her in, keen to learn more about her and her past. Throughout the night, as they sit by a warm fire, the two share stories involving their pasts, with Chin regaling Yau with her family's legend surrounding a cannibalistic creature known as "the wild dog." As the night wears on, things take a chilling turn as it seems that Chin and Yau have more in common than they initially thought.

Overall, Three... Extremes II is a thrilling and terrifying film that provides an excellent blend of horror, suspense, and drama. The engaging performances by the three leading actors lend to the success of the movie. The three stories, each with its distinct culture and artistic style incorporated, showcase the diverse and complex nature of Asian horror. This movie is highly recommended for Asian horror enthusiasts and anyone looking for a good scare.
