Tidal Wave (Korean title: 해운대) is a disaster movie released in 2009, directed by Yoon Je-kyoon. The film is set in the coastal city of Busan, South Korea, where Kim Hwi, a lifeguard, and his daughter, Yeon-hee, live a peaceful life. However, the city's tranquility is soon shattered when a giant tsunami strikes the coastline, putting everyone's life in danger.

The film opens with a scene of a family relaxing on the beach. Suddenly, they notice something strange happening in the distance. As they watch, a massive wave appears on the horizon and races towards them. Chaos ensues as people race to safety, with the water destroying everything in its path.

Kim Hwi (played by Sol Kyung-gu) is a former Olympic gold medalist in swimming who now works as a lifeguard. He is called into action when the tsunami hits, and he immediately springs into action, working tirelessly to save as many people as possible.

One of the people he saves is Lee Yu-jin (played by Ha Ji-won), a single mother who is visiting Busan with her daughter, Ji-min. Yu-jin is a successful real estate agent who initially comes across as snobbish and unapproachable. However, as the disaster unfolds, she and Kim Hwi form a bond, united by their determination to survive and help others.

Another key character in the movie is Choi Hyeong-sik (played by Lee Min-ki), a young man who is desperately searching for his missing girlfriend. Throughout the film, he races against time to find her, battling the elements and his own fears.

As the disaster continues to unfold, the film explores the human cost of the tragedy. The characters are forced to confront their own mortality and think about what's truly important in life. Some of them make heart-wrenching sacrifices in order to save others, while others are forced to come to terms with their own faults and shortcomings.

The film is also notable for its stunning visuals. The tsunami scenes are truly awe-inspiring, with the filmmakers using a combination of practical effects and computer-generated imagery to create a sense of realism. There are also some impressive action sequences, particularly towards the end of the film.

Overall, Tidal Wave is a tense, emotional, and visually stunning disaster movie that offers a compelling exploration of the human cost of a tragedy. The characters are well-developed and the story is engaging throughout, making for a truly memorable cinematic experience.

Tidal Wave is a 2009 action movie with a runtime of 2 hours. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.5.
