True Blood is a 1989 American mystery thriller film directed by Frank Kerr and starring Jeff Fahey, Chad Lowe, and Sherilyn Fenn. The film takes place in the small southern town of Walker, where a series of murders has convinced local law enforcement that a vampire is on the loose. Things take a turn for the strange when Detective Cameron, played by Fahey, discovers a link between the murders and a local vampire movie set.

The opening scene of the movie involves a young couple who is attacked in their car by what appears to be a vampiric creature. One of the victims barely escapes with her life, and the other is left brutally murdered. Soon after, other members of the community begin exhibiting shocking symptoms, leading Detective Cameron to suspect that something far more sinister is at play. Over the course of the film, he and his team must race against the clock to unravel the mystery before more people fall victim to the killer.

Chad Lowe plays a local reporter named Truman, who may have some insight into the case that could help the detectives. He ends up teaming up with Cameron and the two uncovers a complex web of subterfuge and deceit that takes them deep into the heart of the community. Meanwhile, Sherilyn Fenn's character, a movie actress by the name of Sharon, provides an interesting counterpoint to the proceedings. She is one of the performers on a movie set where the film is being made, and as the investigation progresses, she begins to realize that the movie set is not as innocent as it appears.

Despite the dark subject matter, True Blood manages to infuse its storyline with humor and lightness. There is a fair amount of violence and gore, but from a modern perspective, it may seem more campy than shocking. The special effects are not always convincing, but this is part of the film's charm - it is clear that the filmmakers were not aiming for gritty realism, but rather, they wanted to make a fun, entertaining movie that would keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

One of the strengths of True Blood is the cast - Jeff Fahey, Chad Lowe, and Sherilyn Fenn are all terrific in their roles. Fahey, in particular, shines as Detective Cameron. He is a bit rough around the edges, but he is also intelligent and resourceful, and he is not afraid to take risks to get to the bottom of the case. Meanwhile, Lowe brings a bit of levity to the film as Truman, and Fenn is very effective as the femme fatale type who may or may not be working against the heroes.

The film's pacing can be a bit uneven at times, and there are a few scenes that feel like they go on for too long. However, the sense of danger and suspense that permeates the story keeps things interesting. The movie also has a semi-luddite aesthetic which shows things like rotary dial telephones and floppy disks (oh the nostalgia!).

On balance, True Blood is an entertaining thriller that is definitely worth watching if you are a fan of the genre. It is not a perfect movie by any means, but it is well-executed enough to keep you engaged from start to finish. So, put on your cloak and fangs, and grab some popcorn – True Blood will take you on a wild ride through a world of vampires, murder and mystery.

True Blood is a 1989 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 40 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.0.
