Based on the popular television show, Twilight Zone: The Movie takes four of the most memorable tales and redevelops them for the more modern times. The movie focuses on four of the most popular episodes that were originally episodes of the show. The four episodes are "The Quality of Mercy," "Kick the Can," "It’s a Good Life’ and ‘Nightmare at 20,000 feet.’

The first segment, "The Quality of Mercy," tells the story of a very vocal businessman who harbors bigotry against anyone not white or American. The man walks out of a bar one night and somehow finds himself transported to various periods and places in history. His first stop is the 1950s South, where he finds himself running from clansmen who believe he is an African American. He narrowly escapes that situation to find himself a Vietnamese in Vietnam during the war and then finally finds himself a Jewish man herded into a truck in an attempt to escape Nazis in World War II.

The second segment, "Kick the Can," focuses on the residents of a retirement home and their efforts to deal with the effect their aging has on their lives. A new resident arrives and seems to have a bit of magic in him that revives the youthful tendencies of the other tenants. One night he calls the residents outside and offers them the chance to be children again and to have the opportunity to play as they did in their youths. Accepting the gift, the residents find themselves transformed and play as children; however, when the man asks them if they would like to stay as children or be changed back, they realize the value of growing up and choose to return to their normal selves, a little wiser for the experience.

The final two segments are based on the episodes that deal with a child's telekinetic powers and a man's fear of flying.

Twilight Zone: The Movie is a 1983 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 41 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.4 and a MetaScore of 44.
