Up the Chastity Belt is a British comedy film released in 1972, starring the popular comedian Frankie Howerd. The movie is set during the Middle Ages and follows the bumbling and incompetent Fennimore, played by Howerd, as he is appointed to become the new sheriff of the small town of Nottingham. The movie opens with Fennimore, a clumsy and effeminate man, struggling to live up to the expectations of his father, who is a well-respected knight. When his father dies, Fennimore is appointed as the new sheriff of Nottingham, a title that he is not particularly thrilled about. In fact, he is desperately in love with a young maiden called Gwendoline (played by Zizi Mustapha), and all he really wants is to be with her.

Unfortunately for Fennimore, Gwendoline is due to be married to the King of the Normans, a ruthless and tyrannical ruler who is determined to break the spirit of the people of Nottingham. Fennimore and Gwendoline attempt to run away together, but their plan is foiled by the King's men, who capture Fennimore and leave Gwendoline behind.

The rest of the movie sees Fennimore trying to win back Gwendoline's affections while also attempting to save the people of Nottingham from the King's oppressive rule. Along the way, Fennimore meets a cast of eccentric characters, including a band of merry men who are intent on robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, and a group of nuns who have taken a vow of silence.

One of the standout performances in the movie comes from David Kernan, who plays Brother Bede, a cunning and conniving monk who is intent on swindling Fennimore out of his money. Kernan's performance is one of the highlights of the movie, as he delivers his lines with perfect timing and an infectious energy that brings the character to life.

Another notable performance comes from Nora Swinburne, who plays Lady Margery, the mother of the King of the Normans. Swinburne's performance is both witty and charming, as she effortlessly switches between being the doting mother and the conniving villain who is determined to see her son succeed at all costs.

While Up the Chastity Belt may not be a particularly deep or thought-provoking movie, it is a delightful comedy that is sure to bring a smile to your face. The movie is filled with witty one-liners, slapstick humor, and clever sight gags that are sure to keep you entertained from beginning to end.

Overall, if you're looking for a lighthearted comedy with a talented cast and a charming storyline, then Up the Chastity Belt is definitely worth checking out. It may not be a cinematic masterpiece, but it is a fun and enjoyable movie that is sure to leave you with a smile on your face.
