Vallamai Tharayo is a Tamil drama film directed by Madhumita, released in 2008. The movie explores the life of a young woman, Abhirami (Chaya Singh), who is caught between her love for her husband, Sanjeev (Parthiban), and her ambition to pursue a career in the media industry. The film also features Srikanth, Anand Raj, and Karunas in pivotal roles.

The movie opens with Abhirami and Sanjeev's wedding, which Abhirami's mother disapproves of. Abhirami's mother believes that her daughter should have married someone from a wealthy family and lived a comfortable life instead of marrying Sanjeev, who is a struggling writer. Despite the disapproval of her family, Abhirami marries Sanjeev and moves to Chennai with him.

In Chennai, Abhirami takes up a job as a newsreader in a television channel. She faces several challenges at work, including the discrimination she faces because of her accent and her struggle to assert herself in a male-dominated profession. Meanwhile, Sanjeev struggles to make a living as a writer and is unable to provide for his family.

Abhirami's success at her job leads to a strained relationship with her husband, who begins to feel neglected and insecure. The couple's relationship takes a turn for the worse when Abhirami's boss offers her the opportunity to anchor a prime-time show, which means that she will have to work long hours and may even have to move to Delhi. Sanjeev is opposed to the idea of Abhirami moving to Delhi and makes his displeasure clear.

As Abhirami's career takes off, she finds herself torn between her ambition and her love for her husband. Sanjeev, on the other hand, feels sidelined and underappreciated. He becomes increasingly distant from Abhirami and starts drinking heavily, which further strains their relationship.

The movie explores several themes, including the challenges faced by women in the workplace, the delicate balance between career and family, and the importance of communication in a relationship. The performances by the lead actors are impressive, and the supporting cast is equally good. The cinematography and music are also noteworthy.

The movie concludes with Abhirami making a difficult choice that could potentially change the course of her life. The ending is unexpected and leaves a lasting impact on the viewer. Overall, Vallamai Tharayo is a well-directed, well-acted, and thought-provoking movie that is definitely worth a watch.
