Venus in Furs is a surreal thriller, based on a book of the same name, which chronicles one man's obsession with a mysterious woman who ultimately disappears. Jimmy Logan is a jazz trumpet play. One day, in Istanbul, Turkey, he meets a beautiful, charismatic woman named Wanda. After interacting with her for a short period, three privileged, sociopathic, rich men try to seduce her. They get Wanda drunk one night at a club and then proceed to is murder her in a gruesome, violent way. Jimmy begins obsessing about this horrible event. Later, he goes to Rio and inexplicable happens. He sees Wanda. Wanda appears to be alive and well and living in Rio. It is unclear why she is alive or whether Jimmy hallucinated her murder, whether it was a fantasy or a dream, or whether the time spent in Rio is a fantasy. Jimmy quickly reconnects with Wanda who becomes very clingy and needy. She obsesses about his whereabouts, contacts him hundreds of times a day, and asks controlling questions about his personal choices. Meanwhile, his girlfriend Rita becomes increasingly uncomfortable with the relationship. Venus in Furs has supernatural elements and fantastical scenes. Jimmy is still haunted by the images of Wanda's supposed murder and considers going back to Istanbul, but feels too suffocated and paralyzed to do anything. Wanda becomes more controlling and pushes Jimmy to a new psychological breaking point. He then tries to erase Wanda from his life. He packs his bags and returns to Istanbul. However, once Jimmy arrives in Istanbul, a younger version of Wanda appears. It is unclear if the murder ever happened. Jimmy must now resist this present version of Wanda, which does not gel with his confusion over her presence in Rio, his fantasies about her murder, and his effort to carry on with the rest of his life. Jimmy then walks on the beach one day, completely desperate only to find Wanda's dead body.
