In the small town of Midwich, something strange happens when a strange presence possesses the entire town. One day, everyone in the town suddenly collapses and stays unconscious for several hours. When the people of Midwich wake up, they soon discover that every woman of child-bearing age is now pregnant, including those who were previously infertile.

Nine months later, on the same day, all of the pregnant women give birth simultaneously to babies with blonde hair and glowing eyes. The children are all very intelligent and physically advanced, able to walk and talk much earlier than normal children. As they grow up, they start to display some other unusual behaviors, including mind control and telekinesis.

Dr. Alan Chaffee (Christopher Reeve), the town's doctor, and Susan Verner (Kirstie Alley), a government scientist, team up to investigate the strange events and uncover the mystery behind the children. Their investigation uncovers the fact that the children are a threat to human existence as they have no empathy or feelings of love.

As the children grow more powerful, they start to eliminate anyone who stands in their way. They turn out to be a sinister force capable of anything to protect themselves, even murdering anyone who stands in their way. Dr. Chaffee and Susan soon find themselves fighting for their lives as the entire town becomes prey to the children's power.

Despite the incredible performances of Christopher Reeve, Kirstie Alley, and Linda Kozlowski, the movie falls short of being a true thriller. While the suspenseful music and the eerie atmosphere set a chilling tone, the plot itself fails to deliver on the promised horror.

Some elements of the movie that do work, however, include the creepy factor of the children with their glowing eyes and monotonous speech patterns. The scenes where they exert their wills over helpless adults are particularly disturbing.

Overall, Village of the Damned is a decent thriller that is worth a watch for fans of the genre. While it may leave some wanting more substance, it manages to deliver some genuinely creepy moments and a few jumps scares. The story is interesting, and the performances are solid, making this one of the better movies of its kind. If you are a fan of Christopher Reeve, in particular, this will be a must-watch for you, as he delivers a nuanced performance that keeps you engaged throughout the whole movie.

Village of the Damned is a 1995 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 39 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.6 and a MetaScore of 41.
