Wake Me When the War Is Over is a 1969 American made-for-television comedy film directed by Gene Nelson and starring Ken Berry, Eva Gabor, and Werner Klemperer. The movie is set during World War II, and follows the story of a bored and selfish millionaire named Lt. Stevens, who volunteers for a risky mission in order to escape his everyday life.

Lt. Stevens, played by Ken Berry, is stationed in England during World War II, but he's not exactly the model soldier. Instead, he spends his time gambling and pursuing his own interests, while his commanding officer, Major Richards (Werner Klemperer), tries to keep him in line. However, when a group of American soldiers is trapped behind enemy lines in France, Lt. Stevens sees an opportunity to escape his mundane existence and volunteers for a dangerous mission to rescue them.

In order to accomplish the mission, Lt. Stevens must impersonate a German officer and infiltrate enemy lines. He's not alone, however, as he's joined by a group of misfits and soldiers who are willing to help him. Among them is the beautiful Marlene (Eva Gabor), who is also posing as a German officer. As they make their way into enemy territory, they encounter a series of obstacles, including an overzealous German captain who is suspicious of Lt. Stevens and his team.

While the film is a comedy, it also touches on serious themes, such as the horrors of war and the sacrifices made by soldiers. Through his experiences on the mission, Lt. Stevens begins to see the value of teamwork and camaraderie, and he learns to put the lives of his fellow soldiers before his own.

The performances in Wake Me When the War Is Over are top-notch, with Ken Berry delivering a standout performance as the self-centered Lt. Stevens. Berry, who was already a familiar face on television thanks to his roles in shows like F Troop and The Andy Griffith Show, proves to be a capable leading man, infusing his character with just the right amount of likability and charm.

Eva Gabor also shines in her role as Marlene, the beautiful and mysterious German officer who becomes Lt. Stevens' ally. Gabor, who was best known for her role on the television series Green Acres, brings a sophistication and intelligence to her character that makes her much more than just a love interest.

Werner Klemperer, who was famous for his portrayal of Col. Klink on the television series Hogan's Heroes, is also excellent in his role as Major Richards. Klemperer's sharp wit and dry delivery make him the perfect foil for Berry's Lt. Stevens, and the two actors share a natural chemistry that makes their scenes together a joy to watch.

In addition to the strong performances, Wake Me When the War Is Over benefits from a well-written script that balances humor and drama. The film is able to find moments of levity in even the most dire situations, but it never forgets the cost of war or the sacrifices made by soldiers.

Overall, Wake Me When the War Is Over is a charming and entertaining film that manages to be both funny and poignant. With an excellent cast, clever writing, and a great sense of humor, it's a movie that's well worth watching, even after more than 50 years since its original release.

Wake Me When the War Is Over is a 1969 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 14 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.3.
