War of the Worlds: Goliath is a 2012 animated film directed by Joe Pearson and produced by Tripod Entertainment. It combines an alternative history of World War I with H.G. Wells' classic novel "The War of the Worlds" to tell the story of an epic battle between humanity and an alien horde. The movie features the voice talents of Adam Baldwin, Beau Billingslea, and Kim Buckingham.

The film is set in an alternate history where, in 1900, Earth was invaded by Martian tripods. Despite the aliens' advanced technology, the human race managed to repel the attack and survive. In the aftermath of the invasion, the major world powers realized the vulnerability of their individual armies and decided to form a global coalition known as the Human Alliance to fight against future threats from outer space.

Fast forward to 1914, and the Human Alliance is gearing up for a new kind of war. The Germans, despite being part of the Alliance, are seeking to use the alien technology to gain an advantage over their allies. They have secretly constructed their own massive tripod called Goliath, which they plan to use against the Aliens and their fellow Alliance members.

The main character of the film is Lieutenant Eric Wells (voiced by Baldwin), a veteran of the first Martian invasion and a member of the Human Alliance's elite squad. He is tasked with piloting a B-17 bomber plane equipped with a newly-developed weapon called the Heat Ray. The Heat Ray is essentially a reverse-engineered version of the tripods' own weapon, which the Alliance managed to capture during the first invasion.

Alongside Wells is Captain Varley (voiced by Billingslea), a fellow veteran of the first invasion and an experienced pilot. Together, the two men lead a team of young recruits on a mission to take down Goliath and prevent the Germans from unleashing chaos upon the world.

The film features some stunning animation, including both traditional hand-drawn and computer-generated imagery. The futuristic, steampunk-esque designs of the human machines and weapons contrast against the organic, biomechanical look of the Martian tripods. The action sequences are intense and entertaining, with a lot of attention given to the planes and vehicles used by the Human Alliance.

One of the film's strengths is its attention to detail when it comes to the historical setting. The uniforms and weapons of the various armies are accurate and authentic, while the addition of sci-fi elements adds a thrilling sense of novelty to the story. The characters are also well-defined, with Eric Wells being a strong, no-nonsense leader while Varley provides a bit of comic relief.

The film's soundtrack is another highlight, featuring a score by Luka Kuncevic that blends orchestral and electronic elements. The music adds to the sense of tension and excitement, and the theme song "Britannia Rules the Waves" is especially memorable.

Overall, War of the Worlds: Goliath is an enjoyable animated adventure that combines sci-fi, history, and action. It's not a groundbreaking film by any means, but it's a fun one that should appeal to fans of H.G. Wells' novel and those who enjoy alternate history stories. The animation is top-notch, the action is thrilling, and the characters are likable. If you're looking for a fun movie to watch with the family, give this one a try.

War of the Worlds: Goliath is a 2014 adventure movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 22 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.4 and a MetaScore of 33.
