Who Killed Walter Benjamin is a 2005 investigative documentary about the 20th century German intellectual and literary critic. Benjamin was a Jewish literary critic and philosopher that fled Nazi Germany when Hitler came to power. He lived in Paris for seven years. Most of his colleagues had immigrated to the United States, but Benjamin wanted to remain in Europe. He was finally forced to flee to elude capture by the Germans. Benjamin was stopped at the French-Spanish border and is reported to have committed suicide. The local doctor, however, declared it a natural death. The documentary explores a series of troubling questions surrounding Benjamin’s death.
