In the movie, Wide Awake, a young male does not get enough anesthetics, and he gets "intra-operative awareness" during his heart surgery. He can hear every sound and feel the movement throughout the procedure. He can feel the saw cutting through his rib cage, and he can feel the scalpel slicing through his skin. He is completely awake for the procedure. Since the muscle-relaxation drugs have kicked in, he cannot let anyone know that he's in pain. The experience makes him traumatized for the rest of his life. To relieve some of pain, he decides to murder a young female after the incident.

Due to his decision to kill the young girl, he has to go into an institution. While in the mental hospital, the doctors try to treat him with radical treatment methods. They are trying to cure the child, so he can live a happy and healthy life. The characters in the movie use hypnotism, and they get part of the boy's past, personality, and memory. The boy's past contributed to the boy's personality. The boy is given a second chance at life now that he has been cured of his evilness. He can hopefully live a normal life now that he has been cured of the disease.

After 20 years of no evil activity, the male's childhood comes to the forefront again though a series of weird events. There are several people that get murdered as the result of his evil past. He wants other people to feel the pain that he felt as a kid. He is a smart but cruel killer. As the murders progress, viewers learn more and more about his wild past. Viewers will have to watch the movie to see if he gets cured of his evilness.
