Write and Wrong is a dramatic comedy released in 2007, directed by award-winning writer-turned-director Graeme Clifford. It tells the story of a struggling novelist named Terry, played by Eric Christian Olsen. Terry has not produced a hit book in years and his bills are piling up. His marriage to his wife Danni (Stacy Grant) is also on the rocks, and she is pressuring him to find a real job and start a family.

Terry hits his lowest point when his manuscript is rejected by the publisher for the umpteenth time. In a moment of desperation, he decides to steal an old typewriter from a local antique store. Little does he know, the typewriter is cursed, and it makes whatever he types come true.

Terry begins to use the typewriter to better his own life, typing up grocery lists that miraculously have winning lottery numbers on them, and even writing an email to his wife’s boss that leads to her promotion. Terry is elated by the success he is finally seeing, but he is also scared of what the machine is capable of.

Enter Angela, played by Kirstie Alley, a tough-as-nails literary agent who is down on her luck after her latest bestseller turns out to be a flop. She is desperate to find a new writer to save her career and she hears about Terry from a mutual friend. Angela manages to persuade Terry to pretend that he wrote a book that she can sell to publishers.

Angela and Terry take a trip to New York together and the book becomes an overnight success, but Terry’s guilt over the conman-like circumstances of the project begin to weigh heavily on him. Terry’s lies get the best of him when he realizes he needs to tell Angela the truth about the manuscript that she has been promoting to publishers as his work, but he fears what the consequences could be.

The performances in the film are excellent across the board. Eric Christian Olsen shines as Terry, delivering a nuanced portrayal of a struggling artist that is both sympathetic and comedic. Stacy Grant’s performance as Danni is equally affecting, as she conveys the frustration and heartbreak that comes with loving someone who is struggling with their passion. Kirstie Alley goes against type as the tough and brash literary agent Angela, and her performance is a highlight of the film.

The cinematography and production design are also noteworthy in Write and Wrong. The scenes featuring the cursed typewriter are shot with a dreamlike quality that makes the audience feel as if they are a part of Terry’s imaginative experiences. The contrast between the snowy, quiet scenery of Terry’s suburban home, and the bustling, noisy cityscape of New York, provides an effective backdrop for the many emotional and comedic highs and lows of the film.

Overall, Write and Wrong is an enjoyable film that successfully balances its dramatic and comedic elements. The film explores themes such as honesty, love, and the cost of success. The tight pacing, solid performances and excellent production elements make Write and Wrong a must-watch for anyone looking for a charming and enjoyable film.
