Yatra is a Bollywood movie from 2006, directed by Goutam Ghose. It tells the story of Gitanjali (Rekha), a famous dancer who returns to Kolkata after being away for 15 years. She is there to perform at the memorial concert for her mentor, the famous classical musician Girish Chatterjee. While in Kolkata, Gitanjali stays with her old friend and fellow dancer Supriya (Deepti Naval).

Gitanjali's arrival in Kolkata coincides with a trip made by Subhendu (Nana Patekar), a businessman who is visiting the city on business. The two meet on the plane and then go their separate ways, but they keep running into each other throughout the film. Eventually, they strike up a friendship and Subhendu becomes a confidante for Gitanjali as she sorts out her feelings about returning to Kolkata and the ghosts of her past.

The film is an exploration of the past and how it shapes our present, as well as the themes of love, friendship, and self-discovery. Gitanjali is haunted by memories of her past, including her relationship with Girish and her early days as a dancer. She grapples with her feelings of loss and regret and tries to reconcile them with her present-day life.

Subhendu is dealing with his own issues, having recently lost his wife to cancer. He finds solace in his conversations with Gitanjali, who helps him to process his grief and see a way forward. Together, the two of them navigate the winding streets of Kolkata, taking in the sights and sounds of the city and connecting with each other on a deeper level.

The film is marked by its beautiful cinematography, which captures Kolkata in all its vibrancy and complexity. The city is a character in itself, woven into the fabric of the film and adding an extra layer of richness to the story. The dance sequences featuring Rekha are also a highlight of the movie, showcasing the graceful movements and emotional power that made her a legend in the Indian film industry.

Overall, Yatra is a poignant and heartfelt film that explores the complexities of life and love. Its themes of memory and self-discovery will resonate with audiences of all ages, and its talented cast brings these characters to life in a way that is both moving and memorable.
