Possibilities for a Girls-Night-In: Five great chick-flicks!by: Posted:
Need a great idea for a girls-night party? How about getting together with your BFFs and watching some of the best chick flicks, ever?! Below are five possibilities you can use.
Love Actually – This film is by far one of the best romantic comedies out there. The movie weaves together several different storylines that concentrate on many different kinds of love. From first love to fatherly love and from unexpected love to forbidden love and many types in between, Love Actually covers them all. The movie speculates that in spite of all the negativity and tragedy in our lives, “Love, actually, exists all around us”.
Sex and the City – Jimmy Choos, Prada, and cosmos! Sex and the City is pure feminine indulgence. There couldn’t be a more determinedly female movie than this one. A continuation of the lives of the popular characters from the HBO series about four women living and loving in NYC, the film focuses on the idea of what happens after, “Happily Ever After”. The women deal with infidelity, fear of commitment, and pregnancy with the usual amount of humour and four-letter words.
Dirty Dancing – One phrase: “Nobody puts Baby in the corner.” Classic. This quintessential 80’s cheese makes for terrific girl-night viewing. What’s not to love? There’s the incredibly danceable soundtrack, the enjoyably implausible script, and of course, Patrick Swayze shirtless torso! Watch all your favourite scenes over and over again, for as long as the chocolates and Bailey’s hold out.
Bridget Jones's Diary – This one is always a good choice, particularly if one of the girls in your group has just gone through a break up. Bridget Jones gives all women the hope that they too can leave behind all those creeps and jerks who treat them shabbily and find their very own, Mr. Darcy. The dry British humour is also a sure cure for the blues.
Any Movie with a Disney Princess – No one can do “Princess” like Disney. You have a lot of choices here; Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, or The Princess and the Frog. The fairy tale princesses are always a great reminder of being a little girl and the music is usually a lot of fun. Use the subtitles on your DVD and turn the movie into a sing-along!
Getting together with your girlfriends for some bonding is easy when you have so many terrific chick-flicks to chat about!
