Wretched Ratings: Are '90210' and 'Gossip Girl' in Trouble? Are the CW's two flagship shows sinking?

The Monday night ratings for "90210" and "Gossip Girl", both important programs for the network and a large source of their viewing audience, were uncomfortably low. The CW as a network has already been struggling somewhat in competition with the bigger networks and popular reality shows, so to see ailing ratings from two of their bigger shows is a bit worrying.

"90210" pulled in just 1.44 million viewers (that's a 0.7 rating) last night, landing it in last place in the network race during the 8pm hour. Those numbers are even lower than last season, when the show was in direct competition with the ratings monster "Americal Idol."

"Gossip Girl", meanwhile, fared even worse than its counterpart, managing a 0.7 rating with 1.38 million viewers. Additionally, "Gossip Girl" lost viewers in the second half of the show, while "90210" gained in its second half-hour.

The only good news is that "Gossip Girl" still did okay in its target demographic, pulling in a 1.4 rating. "90210" was less fortunate with a 1.0 demo rating.

Both shows go on hiatus until April 18th, so last night's episodes were finales of sorts for the two CW shows. Will things pick up again when they come back? Better hope so, or these two shows might be heading for dark waters.
