3rd Rock from the Sun was a science-fiction sitcom that aired on NBC from 1996 to 2001. The show starred John Lithgow as Dr. Dick Solomon, the leader of a group of extraterrestrials who come to Earth on a mission to observe and learn about human beings. He is joined by three other aliens, Sally (Kristen Johnston), Tommy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), and Harry (French Stewart).

The series follows the misadventures of the aliens as they try to integrate into human society and understand Earth's culture. They take on human identities and jobs, with Dick becoming a physics professor, Sally a waitress, Tommy a high school student, and Harry a janitor. The aliens often struggle with the simplest of human tasks, leading to hilariously awkward situations.

One of the highlights of the show was its strong cast of comedic actors. Lithgow was particularly impressive in his role as Dick, earning multiple Emmy Awards for his performance. Johnston also received critical acclaim for her portrayal of the sexy, sarcastic, and often clueless Sally. Stewart's portrayal of the nerdy and socially awkward Harry was also a standout.

3rd Rock from the Sun also had a strong supporting cast, including Jane Curtin as the aliens' supervisor, Dr. Mary Albright, Wayne Knight as the aliens' nemesis, Officer Don, Simbi Khali as Tommy's girlfriend, and Elmarie Wendel as the Solomon family's eccentric landlord.

While the show was primarily a comedy, it also dealt with some deeper themes, such as relationships, family, and the meaning of life. Dick's attempts to understand human emotions and relationships often led to some poignant moments, as did the aliens' realization that they may never be able to return home to their own planet.

The show's writing was another strong point, with its witty dialogue and clever plot twists. The series was created by Bonnie and Terry Turner, who also worked on Saturday Night Live and That '70s Show. The show had a solid fan base during its run, with its quirky characters and unique premise winning over audiences.

Overall, 3rd Rock from the Sun was a beloved sitcom that was both hilarious and heartfelt. Its memorable cast, clever writing, and unique premise made it a standout show of the '90s. Despite being off the air for over two decades, it remains a fan favorite and a classic example of the sitcom genre.

3rd Rock from the Sun is a series that is currently running and has 6 seasons (149 episodes). The series first aired on January 9, 1996.
