Maya the young girl and her animal friends gather around as the wise old giraffe Georgina tells the story of the elephant bird in 64 Zoo Lane season 2 episode 3.
Georgina tells the tale of a bird so huge it could barely move, with an egg bigger than any other bird's in the world. The elephant bird's egg was so large that many animals would come to try and steal it. The elephant bird had to be very careful to protect her precious egg from harm.
One day, a couple of mischievous monkeys decided they wanted the egg for themselves, and set out to steal it. They managed to slip by the elephant bird while she was sleeping, and tiptoed away with the egg. However, the egg was so large and heavy that they ended up rolling it down a steep hill.
The egg was now broken, and the baby elephant bird inside was exposed. A kind-hearted tortoise, who happened to be passing by, found the baby bird and took it in as her own. She cared for the baby elephant bird as if it were her own, but as the bird grew larger and larger, she realized that she couldn't provide everything the elephant bird needed.
One day, as the young elephant bird was exploring the world, it came across a group of other animals who were also searching for someone to care for them. The young elephant bird recognized that these animals needed help, just like it had when it was a baby, and decided to take them all under its wing.
Years went by, and the elephant bird grew into a wise and respected leader of the animal community. The tortoise who had raised it watched from afar with pride, knowing that her little baby had grown up into something truly special.
As Georgina finishes telling the story, Maya and her friends can't help but feel inspired by the elephant bird's courage and kindness. They take a moment to reflect on the tale, and to appreciate the animals in their own lives who have helped and looked after them along the way.
