Ep 8. In Case of Missed Communication

In this episode of A Gifted Man, titled "In Case of Missed Communication," Michael treats a man named Tom who is having trouble communicating with his wife, Sarah. Tom and Sarah have been married for years but have grown distant over time. They have different interests and haven't been able to connect with each other like they used to.

Tom is frustrated because he feels like he's doing everything he can to save their marriage, but Sarah doesn't seem to be putting in any effort. Michael tries to help Tom understand that Sarah may be feeling just as frustrated as he is, and that they need to find a way to communicate with each other.

Meanwhile, Kate asks Michael to help her friend Lily, who is in labor and doesn't want to go to the hospital because she doesn't have insurance. Michael helps deliver the baby at Lily's home, but when the baby turns out to have some medical issues, Michael realizes that he needs to get Lily and the baby to a hospital as quickly as possible.

Back at the clinic, Michael tries to get Tom and Sarah to talk to each other, but they both keep shutting down. Sarah reveals that she's been seeing someone else and wants a divorce. Tom is devastated and storms out of the office. Michael tries to talk to Sarah and convince her to try to work things out with Tom, but she's too upset and leaves.

Later, Tom shows up at Michael's apartment, drunk and belligerent. Michael tries to talk to him and convince him to sober up and think about what he really wants. Tom eventually passes out, and Michael takes him back to his own apartment to sleep it off.

The next day, Tom thanks Michael for helping him and talks about how he's going to try to win Sarah back. Michael tells him that he needs to be honest with her and tell her how he really feels. Tom realizes that he needs to stop trying to save their old marriage and instead try to build a new one based on the things that they both enjoy.

At the hospital, Lily and the baby are both doing well, but Michael realizes that he's going to have to do some creative billing to get them the care they need without bankrupting Lily. He talks to Kate about it, and she agrees to help him come up with a plan.

In the end, Tom and Sarah decide to give their marriage another chance. Michael helps them both understand that they need to work together and communicate openly in order to make it work. Kate and Michael also come up with a plan to help Lily and the baby get the care they need, and Michael realizes that helping people is what he really wants to do with his life.
