The third season of Alaska: The Last Frontier kicks off with the episode "Cabin Fever" which sees the Kilcher family preparing for the harsh winter days ahead. The Kilchers live a simple life in the wilderness of Alaska where they rely on the land and their hunting and gathering skills to survive the harsh conditions.

In this episode, we see Atz Lee and Jane living in their newly built cabin, away from the main homestead, and they are anxious to get everything ready for the winter months that are fast approaching. They need to ensure that their cabin is well insulated and has a strong roof to withstand the heavy snowfalls that Alaska is known for.

Meanwhile, Atz and his son Eivin are busy working on their hunting cabin, which they use as a base for their winter hunting trips. In order to prevent any unwanted visitors, they need to bear-proof the cabin, which means installing a sturdy door and adding an electric fence around the perimeter. They also need to make sure that they have enough fuel to keep their generator going throughout the winter months.

Charlotte, the Kilcher's matriarch, is busy preserving the food harvested during the summer. She and her daughter-in-law Eve are busy canning vegetables, pickling beets and making jams and jellies using the fruits and berries harvested from the garden. They need to make sure that they have enough food stored for the long winter months ahead.

Meanwhile, Otto Kilcher, the head of the Kilcher family, is busy getting their main cabin ready for winter. He needs to ensure that the chimney is clean and working properly, that their woodpile is stocked up and that they have enough supplies to last them through the winter. He also needs to prepare their livestock, including their cows, chickens, and goats, for the cold winter ahead. This includes making sure that their animal shelters are well insulated and that they have enough food and water to last them through the winter.

The Kilchers make use of everything they have and waste nothing. They use the fat from their livestock to make soap, and they use the bones to make stock. They also use the animal hides to make clothing and blankets to keep them warm during the long winter months.

Throughout the episode, we see the Kilchers working together as a family, each playing a crucial role in ensuring their survival throughout the harsh Alaskan winter. They know that they must work together and rely on each other to make it through. With the winter fast approaching, they know that they must be prepared for anything that comes their way.

Overall, "Cabin Fever" sets the tone for the rest of the season, showing us the grit and determination of the Kilcher family, as they face the challenges of living off the land in one of the harshest environments in the world. The episode highlights the importance of family, hard work, and resourcefulness in the face of adversity. It is a fascinating look into a way of life that few of us can even imagine.
