In season 1, episode 5 - "The Girl in Boxcar #3" - we follow the story of Hannibal Heyes and Jedediah "Kid" Curry, two former outlaws who are trying to live honest lives. However, their past seems to catch up with them wherever they go.

The episode begins with the two friends hitching a ride on a train headed to who-knows-where. As they are settling in one of the boxcars, they hear someone else in another boxcar nearby. It turns out to be a young woman named Grace (played by Susan Strasberg), who's running away from someone or something. She's clearly scared and doesn't trust Heyes and Curry at first, but soon they make an agreement: they'll help her out, and she won't tell anyone they're on the train.

As the train ride continues, we learn more about Grace's story. She's been working for a wealthy man named Pickett, but he's been abusing her and keeping all her earnings. Grace couldn't take it anymore and tried to leave, but Pickett sent his men after her. She's been on the run ever since. Heyes and Curry sympathize with Grace and promise to help her escape Pickett's grasp.

However, things get complicated when Pickett's men show up on the train. They're relentless and will stop at nothing to find Grace. Heyes and Curry have to protect her while keeping their own identities hidden.

To add to the trouble, the train eventually stops at a station where a sheriff and his deputies are waiting. They're searching for Heyes and Curry, who are still wanted outlaws. Heyes tries to convince the sheriff they're innocent and that they're only trying to help Grace, but the sheriff is skeptical.

The tension keeps escalating as the episode goes on. Pickett's men continue to search for Grace, Heyes and Curry continue to hide their identities, and the sheriff continues to suspect them.
