As far as television goes, the Fox network has garnered a lot of its reputation on airing original programming aimed at the sardonic, tongue-in-cheek type of cartoon comedy absent from most other stations. From shows like Family Guy and the Simpsons to American Dad and Bob's Burgers, Fox is a veritable cornucopia of laughs that set their tone for a more mature audience.
In October 2011, well-known actor Jonah Hill debuted one such cartoon comedy named Allen Gregory, a once-a-week look into the life of character Allen Gregory de Longpre via thirty minute episodes. The premise of the show was unlike any other cartoon thus far, with Allen being raised by his father, an adopted daughter and his father's life partner. When the economic recession hit's Allen Gregory's wealthy family he is then forced to attend public school for the first time, and his sarcastic wit and no-nonsense attitude get him into mischief more often than not.
As a caveat to the strange story line Allen Gregory is quite smitten with his high school principal, an elderly woman who repeatedly rejects his romantic notions and has no use for his inane banter and advances. Allen's adopted sister cavorts with some unusual friends, including an overweight Indian girl and a slight girl with a back brace, but she is essentially not an integral part of the ongoing story. The focus remains on Allen and his relationships at school and with his fathers.
Even though the series only lasted seven episodes before Fox pulled the plug on the series it did garner quite an impressive cast of character voices. In addition to Jonah Hill being the title character, French Stewart voiced Allen's biological father and Will Forte played the character of school janitor. Lisa Kudrow and Jeff Goldblum also made appearances as small characters, though they were not an ongoing part of the script.
