Ep 4. Ladies Know Best

In American Pickers season 8 episode 4, entitled "Ladies Know Best," the antique-hunting duo Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz head over to Georgia, where they hope to find hidden treasures in the collections of three incredibly astute and independent women.

Their first stop is the home of a retired pastry chef named Betty, who has a deep love and appreciation for antiques. Upon arriving at her house, the pickers are taken aback by the sheer size of her collection: Betty has amassed an impressive amount of vintage memorabilia, ranging from antique toys to kitchenware to signage. Despite the overwhelming amount of items, Mike and Frank are immediately drawn to a set of antique food scales that would make a perfect addition to their own collections.

Next, the pickers visit another Betty, this time a woman who owns a sprawling property full of antique cars and motorcycles. Betty admits that she's been dedicated to collecting since she was young, and the result is a mesmerizing display of rare vehicles from all different eras and manufacturers. Mike and Frank are particularly excited to see Betty's unusual collection of three-wheelers, including a rare Harley-Davidson Servi-Car and an early 20th-century Morgan trike. But the surprises don't stop there: Betty also has a 1946 Indian Chief motorcycle in pristine condition, which could fetch a significant price at auction.

Finally, the American Pickers head to the home of a woman named Judy, who runs an antique mall filled with all sorts of odd and interesting collectibles. But Judy has some treasures of her own, including a life-sized fiberglass elephant that used to be a fixture of a local car dealership. Mike and Frank are also taken with a vintage Coca-Cola vending machine that still works perfectly, as well as a set of old-fashioned barber chairs that they know they can sell for a decent profit.

Throughout their journey, Mike and Frank are struck by the strong personalities and determination of the women they meet, each of whom has carved out her own space in the male-dominated world of antique collecting. With humor and admiration, the two pickers pay tribute to these ladies who truly know best when it comes to finding hidden gems and keeping history alive.
