American Supergroup was a reality competition TV series that premiered on POP TV in the fall of 2016. It featured 25 musicians from across the United States who formed five musical groups and competed against each other to become the ultimate American Supergroup. The show was hosted by Dave Styles, a popular radio personality, and music industry experts such as Jennifer Nettles, Elle King, and Aloe Blacc served as mentors and judges.

The show started with a nationwide audition process where over a thousand musicians applied to be part of the show. The selected musicians were then grouped into five bands, each with its unique sound and style. The contestants were diverse, ranging from seasoned musicians with years of experience to up-and-coming artists trying to break into the music industry. The competing bands included:

- Brown Bird: A folk-rock band from Rhode Island featuring the husband-and-wife duo David Lamb and MorganEve Swain on vocals and various instruments.
- The Reach: A pop-rock band from Nashville led by the charismatic frontman J.T. Roach.
- Summerdaze: A California beach-inspired band featuring four vocalists and a variety of instruments, including ukuleles, guitars, and percussion.
- Walter Lee: A soulful and bluesy band led by the powerful vocals of Walter Lee Younger.
- Victoria Canal: A singer-songwriter and pianist from Atlanta with a unique blend of pop, jazz, and R&B influences.

Throughout the show, the contestants faced various challenges designed to test their musicianship, teamwork, and ability to perform under pressure. The challenges included songwriting sessions, studio recordings, live performances, and music videos. The contestants also had to impress the judges, who gave their feedback and critiques after each challenge.

The show had a fun and positive vibe, with the contestants frequently joking around and supporting each other. The mentors were also very involved, providing guidance and advice to the contestants to help them improve their performances. Several guest musicians, including Gavin DeGraw and A Great Big World, also made appearances and performed with the contestants.

In the end, only one band was crowned the American Supergroup and won a recording contract with Republic Records. The tension and excitement of the finale kept viewers on the edge of their seats, as the winner was decided by a combination of judges' scores and audience votes.

Overall, American Supergroup was an enjoyable and entertaining competition show that showcased the talent and diversity of American musicians. The show had a refreshing focus on collaboration and teamwork rather than cutthroat competition, and the contestants' enthusiasm and passion for music were infectious. Dave Styles was an excellent host, keeping the show flowing smoothly and injecting humor and energy into the proceedings. While the show only ran for one season, it made an impact on viewers and showcased some fantastic musical talent.
